The seminar will feature the single theme of traffic safety related issues, investigations, and prosecutions.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Crash Trends, Who's Hitting Who?
This session will provide a review of data as it relates to traffic crashes in Ohio, including where Ohio ranks nationally, and the impact of alcohol, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, speed, and safety belt use. Will also include discussions on data trends and how it can be used to initiate countermeasures.

11:00 - 12:00 noon "Road Rage" Case Studies and Lessons
This session will detail several "road rage" case studies and will provide insight on prosecution strategies, lessons and pitfalls to avoid.

1:00 - 2:15 p.m. Alcohol and Drug Testing & Toxicology
This presentation will detail the Ohio Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Testing program, the principles behind breath testing, and address current issues with law enforcement and hospital blood testing. Additionally, the session will address scientific issues regarding the prosecution of blood and urine cases, including interpretation of the test results, retrograde extrapolation, and estimating the amount of alcohol consumed. An open forum for questions and answers will also be included.

This session will detail an Ohio State Highway Patrol fact pattern and crash investigation, the technology and capabilities of electronic data recorders (the "black box"), and additional crash investigation tools, including speed calculations and computer simulations.

This session will explore the dynamics of both aggressive and distracted driving from a psychologist's point of view. Causes for aggressive and distracted driving will be addressed and participants will have an opportunity to interact in a few real-life examples. Dr. Douglas, a renowned expert in mental health issues related to law enforcement situations adds both humor and fact in his presentations.

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Legislative Update and Case Law Trends This session will provide an update on pending legislative initiatives affecting traffic safety and will also detail current case law trends on O.V.I. and Aggravated Vehicular Homicide related issues.

We have received approval of 9.50 hours of CLE credits.

The registration fee of $175.00 covers all handout materials, continental breakfast and lunch both days, and refreshments at breaks. The fee for one day only is $125.00. Due to the expense of producing the training manual, which requires an early commitment, a $40.00 penalty will apply to all cancellations made through September 23rd, and a copy of the manual will be sent to the registrant. To help defray the cost of food guarantees, cancellations after September 23rd will be assessed a penalty of $100.00 if scheduled to attend both days, and a $80.00 penalty if scheduled for one day only.
